A stroke can be a sudden, life-changing event for the person it happens to and those around them. Whilst the consequences can be devastating, people do recover and learn to live with the loss of some functioning where this has occurred. Your best chance of recovering from a stroke is getting medical help early, being patient as functions return, accessing a good rehabilitation programme and keeping motivated, even if progress seems slow.

The Otago/Southland Society was established in 1944 - one of the first of the current eight affiliated Societies of the Amputees Federation of New Zealand Inc. The Space Programme is for mainly first time parents with newborn babies. Sessions are held over 3-4 terms in a relaxed, baby-friendly atmosphere. The main aim of these groups is to encourage parents to become involved in their children's play and understand their child's development.

Otago Disabled Students’ Association (ODSA) is a whānau made of tauira from both the University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic. Members may either identify as a disabled or impaired student themselves or be an ally of the disabled community. Disability reflects the interaction between an individual's impairment and the barriers of their environment. This includes, but is not limited to, physical impairment, mental health and psychological conditions, learning and/or sensory forms of impairment, neurodiversity, chronic illness, individuals within the Deaf community and beyond.

Uruuruwhenua Health works closely with existing health providers and whanau in the rohe to ensure that all parties are facilitated towards effectively growing whanau ora through collaborative and co-operative efforts.Services are delivered within Uruuruwhenua – the geographical area covered by Roxburgh, Wanaka, Makarora, Maniototo, Cromwell, Ranfurly, Millers Flat and Alexandra. The service has an office based in Alexandra. Our whanau worker/s operate a mobile service from this central location. This allows for services to be delivered in shearing quarters, fruit industry accommodations, whanau, community homes and facilitated through premises including doctors’ surgeries, hospital and clinics.

The Otago Community Hospice provides specialist palliative care services to anyone in Otago with a life limiting illness. We provide two programmes: Home Based Social Work Support and Family Start. Both services are home based and focus on improving children's growth and health, learning and relationships, family circumstances, environment and safety, particularly when parents are struggling with challenges or problems that may make it harder to care for their children. Home Based Social Work Support is a shorter intervention and children can be aged up to 17 years of age. This service is not available in Queenstown. Family Start support babies and their caregivers early-before the baby's birth or in their first year and can provide longer term support.

South Canterbury Hospice provides specialist palliative care to people of all ages within the region of South Canterbury from the Waitaki to the Rangitata rivers, and the mountains to the sea. Quality care is provided for people, their families and whanau who are affected by cancer and non-cancer life limiting illnesses. Medical and nursing care is provided to manage complex symptoms and pain. Many patients return home while others receive specialised end-of-life care. The trained team members care for the whole person - the physical, emotional, spiritual, social and psychological needs are supported. Bereavement, grief and loss support is provided for families and whanau. Our service extends to education, training and advice to residential care facilities in this region.

We are a Child and Family Support Service providing free, social work support to families with children up to 17 years old. Our HOME BASED FAMILY SUPPORT program provides advice and support around child behaviour and parenting skills, household management and routines. Our FAMILY CENTRED SERVICE works with family/whanau who have experienced family violence who want to make their families/whanau safer places to be. Our FAMILY START program is an intensive long-term home based service assisting families with vulnerable children from 12 weeks gestation to one year old to build their strengths and capacities to ensure the children have the best possible start in life. We have STRENGTHENING FAMILIES coordination where families working with multiple services can use this process to help agencies and family work together to improve health, education and social outcomes for family and whanau. The RESTORATIVE JUSTICE process is also available.
Community Ministries. Our Community Ministries centres around New Zealand provide individuals and families with food parcels, budgeting advice, life skills and parenting courses, social work, youth development, and transitional housing.

Ara Poutama Aotearoa, the Department of Corrections, is responsible for supporting people to comply with their sentences and orders (as imposed by the Courts or the Parole Board), to access programmes and services which help reduce the likelihood of their re-offending, make a contribution to the community and develop some of the life skills, knowledge and experiences which will help them lead lives without crime. Corrections works closely with a wide range of community and government partners, including mana whenua, to help people make and sustain change in their lives and create safer communities and families/whānau. If you are serving a community sentence or you have been released from prison on parole or with special conditions, you are usually “on probation”. Our community team work with people on probation to motivate them to make changes in their lives. This may include attending Community Work or programmes to address violence, alcohol and drug abuse or driving offences. If appropriate, offenders can attend programmes that teach them about Maori culture and give them opportunity to re-connect to their iwi. People on sentences and orders with Corrections may reside in one of 18 prisons across New Zealand, or be required to report to a Probation Officer and attend programmes in the community at one of over 70 Community Corrections’ sites or hubs.

Baskets of Blessing is a Queenstown based volunteer community Charitable Trust creating & gifting tailored gift baskets, cooking and delivering home cooked frozen meals, baking and food boxes to anonymous nominations... these are gifts of love for when words just aren't enough!Baskets of Blessing is providing support to those in physical, emotional and circumstantial crisis. Baskets full of donated gifts and surprises are carefully hand-filled and sent anonymously to those in need. Food hampers and frozen meals provide relief.Anonymous nominations are made via our website, and messages are accepted through Facebook and Email. Donations are highly appreciated and are the driving force in keeping the baskets and food hampers wonderful. Baskets are sent out once a month, with food hampers sent out weekly.
